CLIMATE
Climate change is one of the most pressing and expansive existential threats of our time, and its impacts will ripple across every area of people's lives.
By 2030, it is estimated that Georgia will be home to more than 14.5 million people, an increase of nearly 50% from 2016. The health of Georgia's residents and businesses depends upon the health and sustainability of its natural resources. The impacts of future climate change on Georgia are likely to be diverse and costly. More dangerous weather patterns and an eroding coastline will not only impact coastal towns, but our district as well by disrupting supply chains and businesses.
Georgia is ranked among the most vulnerable states in regard to climate change, and least prepared in terms of dealing with public health impacts of a climate crisis. We must support climate change policy at every level of government including:
Support the Green New Deal at every level of government
Transition energy sector jobs to well-paying union and green jobs
Support climate policies which center racial parity, including the Georgia Environmental Justice Act of 2021
Expand EV tax credits and expand public transportation
Cut emissions from fossil fuels to zero, and transition Georgia to a net zero carbon economy emphasizing clean energy and green transportation
Support Atlanta’s commitment to reach 100% clean energy by 2035 and work to expand this approach to our district
Increase transparency by requiring local governments to post contents of environmental effects reports on their websites
Support the Congressional legislation introduced by Senators Ossoff & Warnock to protect the Chattahoochee River, and work on efforts to protect Georgia’s other key waterways
This is the only planet we have, and we must do everything we can to protect it.
